Don’t nod and smile unless you are happy and agree.
Dr. Melissa Harris-Perry (via fieldoflilys)
I’m gonna be a little nitpicky here and say that this is quoted out of context. It was actually one of the pieces of advice she debunked. She followed this up with a statement about the realities of our situations - how it can be useful to adopt certain “submissive” “feminine” postures in order to get people to listen to us in the first place.

Graduated!
(Now time to nap forever.)
I don’t understand why Wellesley freshmen are trying to pair up with roommates already. I feel like that takes away from the fun of sharing a room with someone totally different from you. To each her own I guess!
Yeah, I mean, I lucked out and got a good roommate first year. I know some folks who had problems with the random pairing though (gay girl with a raging homophobe roommate, for example) so I understand why people do it.

Q:how much like the l word is queer life at wellesley?
No idea, never watched it.
Q:have you found wellesley very competitive? how would you describe the students at wellesley on the whole?
So. Hm. These are both hard questions for me to answer because Wellesley has been my only college experience so I don’t have much to compare it to. Compared to what (little) I know of other college experiences, I would probably say that Wellesley is a competitive atmosphere but not necessarily against other students. Students are encouraged to study together and work together - it’s not like we’re sabotaging each others’ projects. It’s more like students are competing with themselves, if that makes sense, to do as well as they can. So maybe competitive isn’t really the right word.
Describing the students on a whole is hard because your impression of the student body really depends on who you hang out with (if you’re on a sports team, in a society, etc). Generally based on the people I hang out with/trends I’ve observed, I get the impression that Wellesley is very “queer” (LGBTQ), feminist (defined broadly), liberal (both in terms of not conservative and not radical leftist), and career-minded (focus on getting internships, lots of folks are pre-med, pre-dental, pre-law, etc).
I hope that helps - if not hit me up again!
I see all the prospective students on the Wellesley tag
And I kind of want to give unnecessarily cynical senior advice.
(I love Wellesley in my own way, don’t get me wrong, but I haven’t quite gotten to the point where I’m nostalgic)
So if anyone has any questions… :-P
Herro Cherro: I cannot decide which two majors I want to pursue....
Really, I cannot narrow it down to two for the life of me….and I’m definitely not committing academic suicide by going for more than a Double Major. Here’s what I’ve got so far:
-Japanese with the East Asian Languages and Literature Departments
-Astrophysics Interdepartmental Major
-Biological…
…I take it you’re not at Wellesley yet. How can you choose a major when you haven’t taken any of the classes for it yet? Also you can’t do more than a double major (like literally the school doesn’t recognize it).
It’s great to have interests and ideas of things you want to take but you really don’t have to choose a major *before* you even know what the classes are like.
Chill. It’s gonna narrow down somehow.

Something dickish this way comes
So apparently someone took down the poster for the Tobi event that I put up in my dorm. I mean, someone had to have taken it down - the tackboard in question isn’t close to a door (it’s been windy recently so some things have been blowing off of walls and tackboards). But I can’t figure out a motive at all. There was a tour group that passed through yesterday so maybe someone wants to protect parents/prospective students from the gay, but none of the posters for a different queer event happening this week were taken down. And the expiration date has not passed - it’s pretty clear on the poster. I mean, maybe they took it for themselves, but why? Why would you take publicity away from an event you like?
When I told my friend M who lives on my floor, she said that maybe it was connected to a different incident of tearing things down from earlier this semester. After one weekend we found that the “all gender bathroom” sign had been torn down (literally torn off the wall so there’s a dent). I figured someone was just drunk and destructive. But she’s right, they’re both trans-related things.
I put up another poster with a kind-of passive-aggressive message about not taking it down until after the event has occurred… But seriously if there’s some aggressive transphobe living on my hall we’re going to have problems.
