Just, okay.
Honestly, at first I bought into the whole EVERYTHING IS A -PHOBIA AND X PRIVILEGE KIND OF SITUATION.
But with the help of some wonderful people who also happen to have Tumblrs and a lot of irl conversations and getting my ass kicked around due to my queeritude in really, uh, I mean, in REAL ways …
NO.
There’s a whole bunch of shit that Tumblr is correctly identifying as shitty and problematic and fucked up.
BECAUSE THEY ARE MASH-UPS OF EXISTING OPPRESSIONS.
Sexism, homophobia, sex-negativity, Christian privilege and, oh, probably a dash of nationalist racism oops and capitalism = “sexual privilege”
And just because homophobia is aimed at you doesn’t mean you’re queer.
So instead of OBSCURING stuff like SEXISM AND HOMOPHOBIA AND NASTY NATIONALIST MYTHS ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF PROCREATION by yelling about “acephobia” and furthering this idea that ~all identities are equally valid and equally political~
why don’t we
break things down
and think about them
why don’t we just think
about things
a little harder.
Because it IS damaging to both play these games around identity and to elide the real causes of these things because it’s letting these big ugly violent systems get away with it. In fact, it’s actually performing again these big ugly systems.
Many feelings that are similar to my own but better articulated.
